Police in New Westminster say a suspect ran away after trying to break into a residential building late last month, and are asking anyone with information to come forward. The department says officers were called to the 400 block of Ginger Drive around 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. “The resident was home alone when she heard knocking at both the front door and a window. As she was not expecting anyone, she did not answer,” police wrote in a statement Wednesday. “A short time later, she heard what sounded like a window screen being cut in a bedroom.” Police say she entered the room and saw a man climbing through the window. She screamed and he ran away. “The resident’s quick reaction likely changed the outcome of this situation,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver, in the statement. “By making noise and getting to a safe location, she drew attention to what was happening and caused the individual to flee. We’re now asking anyone who may have seen this person in the area to contact investigators.” Police say investigators are continuing to review CCTV and evidence from the scene and asked anyone with information to call 604-525-5411.
