A man was arrested and taken to hospital under the Mental Health Act Friday morning after he allegedly assaulted and urinated on a stranger in downtown Vancouver, according to police. The 31-year-old victim was walking near West Pender and Beatty streets just after 6 a.m., when “she encountered a naked man on top of a parked car,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement. “The suspect began yelling, ran toward the victim, knocked her to the ground, and urinated on her,” the VPD continued. Police say bystanders intervened, called 911 and restrained the suspect until officers arrived. The suspect, a man in his 20s, remains in “secure custody” in hospital. The VPD says it will recommend criminal charges against the man.
