The FIFA World Cup in Vancouver has come and gone, as have the panels that transformed Science World into a gigantic soccer ball, and now you can own a piece of that era. Some of the 131 panels that made up “The Beautiful Dome” are being given to Science World, BC Place, Canada Soccer and the province, among other organizations, and the rest will be turned into merchandise that is available for purchase. “The Beautiful Dome 2026 Collection” includes patio umbrellas, duffle bags and shopping totes, and because they will all be made of a different piece of the installation, the items are one-of-a-kind. The keepsakes do not come cheap—the 9-foot umbrella costs $777.95, the duffle bag $349.95, and the tote $49.95. You can also opt to buy a whole, unaltered panel for $999.95. Proceeds will go towards Science World’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and design, and math) programs “to build future-ready talent and engage young learners throughout British Columbia,” according to a news release issued Friday. “The Beautiful Dome changed the way people saw Science World this summer, not only as a landmark, but as a canvas for science, sport and imagination,” said Brian Radburn, interim president and CEO of Science World, in the release. “By preserving some of the panels and transforming others into useful new objects, we are extending the story of this extraordinary project.” The collection is available for purchase through Science World’s online store.
