A 55-year-old man from Kamloops, B.C., is recovering after police say he was stabbed while trying to break up a fight involving his neighbour. Kamloops RCMP were called to a home in the 1800 block of Parkcrest Avenue just before 5 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an assault with a weapon, according to a release issued the following day. “Upon arrival, police learned that a 27-year-old man had gotten into a physical altercation with a family member,” the statement explains. “A neighbour, who is known to both individuals, heard the disturbance and attempted to intervene, at which point he was stabbed.” Mounties say the suspect had barricaded himself inside a trailer on the property following the stabbing but surrendered himself following a short negotiation with police. The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet tells CTV News that the suspect, the 27-year-old man, is known to police and made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. Because the suspect allegedly spat in the face of a police officer during the arrest, Shoihet says the charges being considered against him include assaulting a peace officer, as well as assault and assault with a weapon.
