Man dead following targeted shooting at Surrey hotel

Man shot and killed outside Surrey hotel Mounties are investigating after a man was shot and killed outside the Comfort Inn & Suites in Surrey Monday afternoon.

A 29-year-old man has died following what police believe to be a targeted shooting in the parking lot of a Surrey hotel.

Shots rang out at the Comfort Inn & Suites, located at Fraser Highway and 166 Street, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

When Mounties arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Witnesses told CTV Vancouver up to five gunshots rang out, and that they saw officers performing CPR at the scene a short time later.

Police later confirmed that the man died of his injuries.

He has been identified as Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu of Surrey.

IHIT says Bhangu is known to police and preliminary evidence suggests the shooting was targeted.

IHIT is also working with North Vancouver RCMP on an investigation into a shooting in that city just an hour later, and Vancouver police are investigating a shooting in the Downtown Eastside that sent a man to hospital.
