The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is asking the public to come forward if they witnessed a car crash involving a police vehicle that occurred in Langley in April. The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. April 10, the IIO said in a release issued Friday. Officers with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and the Integrated Police Dog Services had been travelling eastbound on 36 Avenue, following a vehicle believed to have been involved in a robbery, when the CFSEU vehicle collided with another vehicle driven by a member of the public. Firefighters and paramedics arrived and the man driving the vehicle was taken to hospital. The two police officers also “suffered injuries,” according to the IIO release. The IIO is tasked with investigating all incidents involving police officers in B.C. that result in death or serious harm to a member of the public, regardless of whether there is any allegation of wrongdoing on the part of police.
