Hiker dead, 2 others missing after going over B.C. waterfall

One hiker is dead and two others are missing after the group went over a waterfall near Kimberley, B.C., on Monday, according to police.

The Kimberley RCMP says officers were alerted the three hikers fell down Meachen Falls via GPS SOS. Local search and rescue, Bighorn Helicopters, police dogs and a drone were sent to the scene.

“Frontline officers responded and located one of the three people halfway down the falls,” Mounties wrote in a statement Tuesday. “Unfortunately that person, a woman, was deceased. The death is not considered suspicious.”

The search for the other hikers continues.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased,” police said.
