A highway closure in the Kootenays earlier this week was part of an investigation into a man’s suspicious disappearance nearly one year ago. Mark Konrad, 51, was last seen in Trail near the end of June in 2025. “Since that time, there have been no confirmed sightings. Konrad’s unexplained disappearance in the absence of any benign explanation is cause for concern,” Mounties said in a statement last week, announcing the Southeast District Major Crime Unit had taken over the case. On Monday, Highway 3B was closed for several hours in both directions because a property in Trail was being searched in connection with the case, the RCMP said in a statement Wednesday. Police are “making inquiries” in several additional communities as part of the investigation, including Kelowna, Castlegar, and Grand Forks, according to the statement from Mounties. Anyone who has information about Konrad’s disappearance or who had contact with him last year is urged to call the Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
