1 seriously injured in helicopter crash near Squamish, B.C.

A contractor involved in a helicopter crash near Squamish, B.C., was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries.

One person was injured in a helicopter crash near Squamish, B.C., Tuesday morning, according to officials.

Victoria’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre sent a rescue chopper to the scene after the crash was reported around 9:30 a.m., a statement from the agency said.

“The Cormorant 911 medically evacuated the patient, transported them to Vancouver airport, and transferred care to Emergency Health Services,” a spokesperson wrote.

The patient was met by a team of critical care paramedics who provided “emergency medical treatment” and “transported the patient in serious condition to hospital,” B.C. Emergency Health Services said in a separate statement.

The crashed helicopter was being operated by a contractor working for Woodfibre Management Limited, who was performing maintenance work near the Henriette Dam, the company said in a statement.

“In any incident, our first concern is the safety and well-being of anyone working with us. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the injured individual and their loved ones,” said CEO Luke Schauerte, in a statement.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board, which has deployed a team to the site.
