A team of investigators has been dispatched to the scene of a freight train derailment in southeastern British Columbia. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the derailment near the community of Field involved a Canadian Pacific Railway Company train operated by Canadian Pacific Kansas City. “The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” the agency said in a brief statement Thursday. A Canadian Pacific Kansas City spokesperson says eight empty cars, designed to carry automobiles, were involved in the derailment approximately 12 kilometres west of Field at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. There were no injuries reported in the crash and no dangerous goods were involved, spokesperson Terry Cunha said in an emailed statement. “The line was cleared of the derailed cars late this morning and the rail line reopened after repairs and safety inspections,” Cunha said Thursday. “CPKC crews will remain on site to continue the removal of the involved cars. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. A 2019 derailment near Field killed three Canadian Pacific rail workers when dozens of grain cars and two locomotives careened off the tracks.
