A border-jumping cat who lives in Surrey, B.C., has become a local legend and internet star for his penchant for ignoring international law. Louis, officially Louis Vuitton, hops back and forth across the small ditch that separates the two countries, almost daily. There are no fences in the area, but the border is carefully watched by guards in SUVs, with helicopters overhead and cameras everywhere. But none of it seems to faze the border-hopping kittycat from Canada. “I think it’s because he’s got four legs, not two,” said a passerby, who has watched the fearless feline in action. “He’s a cool little cat, keeps coming back and forth and says hello to everybody,” said Surrey resident Bob Christy. His owner told CTV News that Louis is exceptionally good at catching snakes and mice, and frequently smuggles the goods across the border, depositing them on doorsteps. “I bet he did not declare them,” laughed owner Deb Tate. “He kind of flaunts his recklessness,” she added with a smile. Louis, who turns six on July 1—Canada Day, of course—tends to hop back over the line when he’s good and ready, or when he hears the sound of cat treats.
