A Prince George man who won $5 million in a recent Lotto 6/49 draw says he plans to give “a large portion” of his winnings to his siblings and children. Darryl Woods matched all six numbers in the April 23 draw to claim the $5 million “Classic Jackpot” prize. He scanned his ticket on the B.C. Lottery Corporation’s app the following morning and was “beside himself” when he saw the result, according to a news release from BCLC. “I thought, ‘This can’t be real,’” Woods said, describing his initial reaction to BCLC. “I had to check it three times to make sure and once I realized the amount, I couldn’t stop vibrating until that afternoon.” Woods told BCLC his lottery win is “life-changing,” but he shared relatively modest ambitions in the Crown corporation’s news release. “Woods has a few plans, including potentially purchasing a classic car or a truck, but is most looking forward to gifting a large portion of his winnings to his siblings and kids,” the release reads. Woods purchased his winning ticket at Shah Brothers Convenience Store on Westwood Drive in Prince George. BCLC says lottery players in the province have redeemed more than $16 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49 so far in 2025. The odds of matching all six numbers and winning the Classic Jackpot are one in nearly 14 million. Lotto 6/49 also includes a guaranteed prize draw in which one player wins either the Guaranteed Prize of $1 million or the Gold Ball Jackpot that starts at $10 million and can grow as high as $68 million. The odds of winning the guaranteed prize in a given draw vary based on the number of tickets sold.
