Heavily armed police arrested one man early Wednesday morning after gunshots were heard inside a Surrey, B.C., hotel where the suspect had allegedly barricaded himself inside a suite. Police were initially called to check on the well-being of the man who was staying at the hotel located in the 12400 block of King George Boulevard in the city’s Bridgeview neighbourhood, the Surrey Police Service said in a news release. Investigators determined the man had a firearm and had barricaded himself inside the unit at the Turf Hotel. Neighbouring hotel suites were evacuated and the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team was called to the scene. Shortly after midnight, officers heard gunshots “being fired from inside the suite, with the shots being fired towards the outside,” according to the release. The man was arrested just before 1 a.m. and taken to hospital for evaluation, where he remains in custody, police said Wednesday morning. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police did not report any injuries as a result of the shooting.
