A man has been charged with two counts of arson after allegedly setting fire to two vehicles in Abbotsford, according to authorities. Officers were called to a vehicle fire in a parking lot on Gladwin Road around 9:44 p.m. Thursday for reports a man had attempted to set a car on fire, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement. About half an hour later, police were called to a second car fire on South Fraser Way. “That vehicle sustained significant damage. Through timely communication and co-ordinated patrol efforts, multiple frontline officers quickly canvassed the area, identified, and located a suspect nearby,” the statement form police said. Matthew Waldie, 52, has been charged with two counts of arson damaging property. He remains in custody and court records indicate his next appearance is set for Monday.
