Conservation officers are asking people to come forward with information after a deer was killed “under suspicious circumstances” in Okanagan Falls last week. The B.C. Conservation Officer Service says the male mule deer was found dead on Maple Street March 4, and it had been killed sometime overnight. “Anytime a deer shows up dead it causes us concern, especially within a residential area,” conservation officer Sgt. James Zucchelli told CTV News on Friday. “The wounds were suspicious to imply that somebody attempted to kill this deer unlawfully.” He would not provide details on the deer’s injuries or the manner in which it was killed, saying there are specifics about the wounds that “only certain people would know.” Zuchelli added that killing a dear illegally at night and near homes is “very unsafe.” The BCCOS is asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has information about the incident to call 1-877-952-7277. A $2,000 reward is available for information that eventually leads to a conviction for violating wildlife laws.
