One of the occupants of a home in the Fraser Valley where a fire broke out Friday morning was unable to escape alive, according to officials, who said multiple pets also perished in the blaze. Mission Fire Rescue Service was called to the home just before 5:30 a.m. and “on arrival found heavy fire from the rear and black smoke pushing out the front door,” an online statement for the department said. Crews fighting the fire were told one of the people who lived in the home was unaccounted for, and the fire department confirmed that a search of the residence after found one man and “multiple” pets deceased. Three people, as well as additional pets, escaped the fire and are receiving emergency support services, the fire department’s statement said. The Mission RCMP, in a statement, said the fire was spotted by a Good Samaritan who saw smoke coming from the home and woke the sleeping residents, some of whom were able to escape. Mounties also said the fire is not suspicious.
