PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - The U.S. State Department is strongly urging U.S. citizens to carefully consider before visiting Haiti.
The travel warning issued Monday cites a "critical crime level," a cholera outbreak and an inadequate infrastructure.
The revised advisory comes as Haiti's new president struggles to install a government. President Michel Martelly has seen his first two picks for prime minister rejected by lawmakers and he hasn't yet picked a third nominee.
Cholera has killed more than 5,800 people and sickened 409,000 since Haiti's outbreak began in October.
Haitian officials have long said U.S. travel warnings are exaggerated and unfairly discourage tourism and foreign investment.
