COQUITLAM, B.C. - Two Mounties have been charged with assaulting a driver they pulled over during a speed trap they were operating in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

The RCMP say constables Marko Duran and Trevor Doylend stopped the driver in June of last year to give him a speeding ticket.

That led to an altercation in which the driver was pulled out of the vehicle and arrested.

The driver never filed a complaint, but an RCMP supervisor ordered a criminal investigation after reviewing videotape of the incident made by the in-car camera of the police cruiser.

Const. Duran has been assigned to desk duty pending the outcome of his case while Const. Doylend remains on street duty, and both officers are facing a separate internal RCMP code of conduct investigation.

The driver was never charged in the incident.
