Suspect sought after allegedly fleeing Newmarket jewelry store with gold chain

York Regional Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man after they say he allegedly stole a gold chain from a jewelry store in Newmarket early last month.

Police say the incident happened on June 1 in the Yonge Street and Davis Drive area.

There, officials allege the suspect entered the store and asked to try on a gold chain. After putting the chain on, the suspect fled the store on foot and was last seen running along Davis Drive.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately five-foot-nine, with a medium build, short brown hair and a brown goatee. Police say he was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with white lettering, black pants, a black-and-white baseball cap and black-and-white shoes.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s identity to contact York Regional Police.
