Ex-Boy Scouts leader accused of sexual assaults dating back to 70s

A former Newmarket Boy Scouts leader has been charged in connection with alleged sexual assaults of teenage boys dating back to the 1970s.

York Regional Police said the victims, who were 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents, came forward earlier this year, and an investigation was launched.

As a result, 73-year-old Aubrey Wayne Stentiford from Georgina, Ont., was arrested on Wednesday.

He has been charged with four counts each of incident assault of male and gross indecency.

Police said Stentiford, who was commonly known as Wayne, worked as a leader with the 6^th Newmarket Boy Scouts between the early 1970s and 1976.

At the time of the alleged incidents, he also had connections to the Kawartha Lakes Region, police noted.

They added that Stentiford was also a school bus driver in York Region until the time of his arrest.

Police believe there could be additional victims.
