Two people are facing more than two dozen charges after they allegedly struck a police cruiser intentionally in Vaughan on Sunday night. York Regional Police said a call came in for a suspicious vehicle in the area of Highway 7 and Jane Street around 10:40 p.m. A vehicle reportedly drove through a security gate and entered an industrial property. When officers arrived, they located the vehicle, a Toyota SUV, that was believed to be stolen. The driver allegedly rammed a police cruiser to evade officers. Police said more officers arrived, and they were able to box in the vehicle. The two occupants of the SUV allegedly tried to flee again but were arrested shortly. “The driver became combative during the arrest and provided false identification while in custody. The driver was determined to be impaired by alcohol or drugs, and during a search of the suspect vehicle, officers located break-and-enter tools and a quantity of a controlled substance,” police said in a news release on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as 42-year-old Daryl Horne of no fixed address and 34-year-old Laura Irvine from London, Ont. Horne has been charged with 13 offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, impersonation with intent, impaired operation of a conveyance and three counts of breach of probation. Police noted that Horne was on probation for unrelated offences at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, Irvine is facing charges of possession of break-in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.
