Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety after the University of Toronto issued a shelter-in-place order for its Mississauga campus. The order was first issued at around 9:30 p.m. after the university said that it received reports of police activity at its Mcluhan Court residence at 3330 Residence Rd. In an update posted to social media at 11:45 p.m., Peel Regional Police said the incident is “isolated and contained to a single residential unit,” near Mississauga Road and Inner Circle, and that no injuries have been reported. “The immediate area has been evacuated and residents being asked to shelter in place. Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area,” they wrote in a follow-up email. The shelter-in-place order remained active as of 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. In a statement to CP24, a spokesperson for University of Toronto said they are aware of the police activity on its Mississauga campus “and have issued an alert to the campus community to shelter-in-place” as a result. “Alerts will continue to be sent every 30 minutes until police deem the area safe,” a spokesperson said. Peel Regional Paramedic Services say they have been dispatched to the scene but have no patients at this point. Police later confirmed that no one was injured and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. With files from The Canadian Press
