Man charged, magic mushrooms seized following raid at east Hamilton business

Hamilton police say they seized approximately 1,642 grams of psilocybin in various packaged forms during a Feb. 13 raid at a business in the city's east end.

A 21-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged in connection with the illegal sale of magic mushrooms at a business in that city’s east end.

In January, Hamilton Police Service said they launched an investigation into a now-closed business called “Shroom Godz” at 1466 Main St. E.

On Feb. 13, they executed a search warrant at the location.

Police say 21-year-old Wesley Chevrier, of Hamilton, was found inside and arrested without incident.

He has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – schedule III substance (psilocybin).

Investigators say the accused was taken to Division 20 and later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

During the raid, officers also allegedly seized about 1,642 grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in various packaged forms.

Psilocybin is a controlled substance: police

Hamilton police are noting that psilocybin remains a controlled substance under federal law and it is illegal to sell it “outside of the federal regulatory framework.”

“Businesses operating within the City of Hamilton are expected to comply with all applicable laws,” they said in a news release.
