Durham Regional Police say a 76-year-old pedestrian struck in hit-and-run in Ajax over the weekend has died. Police said at around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a fail-to-remain collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Ringer Road and Harwood Avenue North. The victim was walking within the crosswalk in the area when he was hit by a white 2014 Dodge Ram pickup. The pickup failed to remain on scene, police said. “The pedestrian was initially believed to have suffered minor injuries at the time of the collision and was transported to a local-area hospital. The pedestrian’s condition later deteriorated, and he was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he has since succumbed to his injuries,” they said in a news release issued Thursday. The suspect vehicle and the 69-year-old female driver have been located, police said. “Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit have since been notified of the incident and have commenced a further investigation. The cause of this collision remains under investigation,” police added. Anyone with cell phone or dashcam footage can provide information about this incident to Det.-Const. Daniels, of the Collision Investigation Unit, by calling 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5226.
