A teen has admitted to being the getaway driver in an August 2025 Barrie mall jewelry store robbery. The youth, who was 16 at the time and cannot be named as part of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, pleaded guilty to robbery and wearing a disguise when he helped four other masked young men rob Dia Amore Jewellers at Georgian Mall on the afternoon of Aug. 18, 2025. The thieves were caught on camera smashing display cases and loading what they could into bags before being chased off. Police said the youth and his four co-accused were followed by police along Highway 400 before skidding off the road and crashing their stolen Honda Civic in a construction zone on Innisfil Beach Road. They were arrested by police moments later, according to investigators. The teen is the second to plead guilty in the smash-and-grab. A 17-year-old admitted to being one of the masked thieves and was sentenced to nine months of time served as he faces gun charges in Toronto. Another teen, Barrie police said, was found with a gun on him and is set to stand trial early in the new year. He was granted bail to his mother days after his arrest. Ahmed Al-Saeed, 22, of Barrie and 19-year-old Jahzyi Smith of Mississauga remain behind bars. Al-Saeed, the only accused from Barrie, is back in court next week. The getaway driver returns to court in July to be sentenced by Justice Craig Brannagan. The allegations against his remaining co-accused have not been tested in court.
