It’s clear Trey Yesavage didn’t let his record-setting night in Los Angeles get to his head. In a video posted on social media by Jays’ catcher Tyler Heineman, the 22-year-old starting pitcher can be seen fulfilling his “rookie duties” by carrying the team’s beer after defeating the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday night. “This guy is still carrying the beer after that performance,” Heineman can be heard saying in the video. “That’s a true legend right there.” Yesavage set a World Series rookie record after striking out 12 batters over seven innings on Wednesday night, setting up the Jays to secure a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Jays now lead the series 3-2 heading back to Toronto. Yesavage’s pitching drew widespread adulation from U.S. media, including from Hall of famer Derek Jeter, who also serves as a commentator for MLB on Fox. “He’s got poise, he’s got confidence, but on top of all of that, he has great stuff. Like, he is nasty,” Jeter said. Former World Series champion pitcher and MLB Network analyst Jake Peavy also heaped the praise on Yesavage following Wednesday’s game. “We saw (him) versus the Yankees and knew he was special,” Peavy said. “Tonight, he was even more special.”
