The Greater Toronto Area is digging out after it was hit with a major snowstorm that dumped as much as 60 centimetres in some areas.

Plows are hitting the streets across the region in what will likely be a multi-day snow removal event.

Toronto has declared a Major Snowstorm Condition and Significant Weather Event, which means that parking on any snow route in the city is strictly prohibited.

Vaughan

Like Toronto, the City of Vaughan has also declared a significant weather event. Officials are advising residents to keep travel to essential trips only.

Markham

The City of Markham declared a significant weather event on Jan. 23. At this time, residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to use caution if they need to go out.

Richmond Hill

On-street parking in Richmond Hill is currently off limits as crews work to clear the snow.

Mississauga

The City of Mississauga is asking residents to shovel early and often to keep walkways clear and prevent heavy snow from building up as its plows clear the snow.

Brampton

Brampton is reminding residents that on-street parking is currently prohibited and parking permits are invalid.

“Enhanced Parking Penalties are in effect. Vehicles interfering with snow removal operations will be subject to enhanced parking penalties, and/or may be towed at the owners expense,” the city said.

Oakville declared a significant weather event on Sunday as the snow started to fall.
