Toronto is set to host a historic matchup for its last game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For the first-time ever, the Portugal national team will play in Toronto against Croatia. Some tickets for the Thursday evening contest are selling for as high as $30,000. While that price is enough to make your eyes water, the cost of admission might become easier to understand when you consider that this could be captain Cristiano Ronaldo’s last game in a Portugal jersey. Ronaldo, who became the first soccer player to score in six different World Cups in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan last Tuesday, has said this tournament would “definitely” be his last. To make the stakes even higher, Croatia’s captain Luka Modrić, 40, is also reportedly considering hanging up his international cleats, which means a loss for either side would mark the end of an era. Croatia played Panama in Toronto in a group stage match last week. Although his country’s team has never played here, 41-year-old Ronaldo has touched the pitch at Toronto Stadium once before. Back in 2009, just after signing with Real Madrid after six years with Manchester United, Ronaldo and the Spanish squad played a pre-season international friendly match against Toronto FC on Aug. 9 at BMO Field. Ronaldo, Kaká, Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso, and Raúl, all took part in the 5-1 victory over the home team, as fans packed the stadium to catch a glimpse of their soccer heroes. Were you at that game?
