The Toronto Raptors have announced that they will retire Kyle Lowry’s No. 7 jersey in January 2027, honouring “the face of the most successful era” in franchise history. Lowry’s number will be raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena following the Raptors’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, Jan. 10. The Philadelphia native spent nine seasons with Toronto and helped lead the club to their first NBA Championship in 2019. The organization says Lowry is widely regarded as the “GROAT,” or Greatest Raptor of All Time. “I’ve been looking forward to this moment for years,” Lowry said. “I always said that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me.” Lowry will become the second player in Raptors history to have his number retired, joining Vince Carter, whose No. 15 was retired in November 2024. The Raptors will celebrate Lowry with three “GROAT Nights” throughout the week leading up to the ceremony. The first will take place Jan. 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, followed by a Jan. 8 game against the Utah Jazz. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans attending the Jan. 7 game will receive a collectible Lowry T-shirt, while those attending the Jan. 8 game will receive a limited-edition bobblehead. The celebrations will continue up until Jan. 10, when Lowry, his family, former teammates and members of the organization gather for the jersey retirement ceremony. Lowry’s No. 7 will hang alongside the championship banner he helped bring to Toronto. During his time with the Raptors, he made the playoffs seven times and reached two Eastern Conference finals. Lowry remains the franchise’s all-time leader in assists, steals and three-point field goals made. “We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada,” Lowry said. “We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.”
