Toronto police will be providing an update this morning on the murder of 21-year-old Patrick Santos, whose lifeless body was found bound and beaten in the backyard of his Scarborough home nearly 20 years ago. Police previously said that Santos’ father discovered his son’s body on the back patio of his home on Bridlington Street at around 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 17, 2006. His feet and hands were bound, police said, and there was tape wrapped around his head. He had been beaten and suffocated, according to police. The last time anyone had contact with Santos was at 4:30 a.m. that morning. Police said he spoke to his girlfriend on the phone and told her he was returning home from a downtown nightclub. A DNA profile of a suspect was generated at the time but a match was not identified in the National DNA Data Bank. Det.- Sgt. Stephen Smith, of the cold case unit, is expected to provide an update on the investigation at a news conference at 10:30 a.m.
