New details have been released by Toronto police about a man who allegedly stole a TTC vehicle last week and drove it across the city before he was arrested. In a news release issued Monday, investigators said officers were called to the area of College and Bay streets, not far from Queen’s Park, just before noon on Sept. 11 for a report of a stolen vehicle. It’s alleged that the suspect, who police have now identified as 39-year-old Andrew Boomer, stole a marked TTC pickup truck and fled the area. Police said Boomer crashed the truck into “several” other vehicles, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to two people. Last week, police told CP24 that when officers located the vehicle, the driver refused to stop. A pursuit of the vehicle was called off, police said at the time, for public safety reasons. Boomer was later located and arrested near Eglinton Avenue West and Royal York Road, more than 10 kilometres from the site of the initial vehicle theft. Police did not say at what time they located Boomer. Investigators haven’t said what motivated the theft, but they believe there may be additional victims. “Police are asking residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators,” they said.
