Toronto police ID second suspect wanted in connection with fatal shooting of 23-year-old man in Scarborough

Toronto police have identified a second suspect who is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Shakur Clarke-Sargeant last week in Scarborough.

During a Monday afternoon news conference, Det. Sgt. Phil Campbell identified the suspect as an 18-year-old of no fixed address.

The accused is wanted for first-degree murder.

“Do the right thing, seek counsel, and turn yourself in,” Campbell said.

Clarke-Sargeant was shot in the West Hill neighbourhood, near Kingston and Galloway roads, at around 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 15.

Emergency crews performed CPR but he could not be saved and died at the scene. Clark-Sargeant is Toronto’s 32nd homicide victim of the year.

Twenty-one-year-old Jeavon Quashie, of Toronto, was arrested and charged the following day with first-degree murder.

However, a second suspect that was seen fleeing the area has remained outstanding.

On Monday, Campbell said that police believe the shooting was “planned” and “deliberate,” though he refused to comment on a potential motive for the “senseless murder.”

“One of the reasons we are here today is to try and generate more witnesses. We want people in the area to come forward, to comment on if this was deliberate,” he said.

Posts on social media suggest Clarke-Sargeant was a rapper who went by the stage name YTN Paco and on Monday Campbell confirmed that stage name.

Drake previously paid tribute to Clarke-Sargeant on his Instagram, posting a photo of him with the caption “RIP PACO #gway.”

Police have obtained judicial authorization to publish a photo of the accused that shows him when he was under the age of 18. That authorization expires on Saturday afternoon.
