Toronto Maple Leaf Max Domi may be sidelined by injury, but he’s still managing to find some “ice time” in the offseason by proposing to his longtime girlfriend Estelle Phillips. The 31-year-old forward announced the news on social media over the weekend, posting a picture of his soon-to-be wife showing off her engagement ring and the caption “I love you so much.” A second photo shows the couple hugging while petting their dog, Orion. Phillips, who works as a makeup artist, shared her own photos announcing the engagement with a caption that read: “Best birthday ever.” Several athletes took to the comments of Domi’s post to congratulate him on the announcement, including former Leaf Mitch Marner, New York Islanders centre Bo Horvat, and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. But the biggest congratulations came from Domi’s father, Tie, who penned his own tribute to the couple in a separate social media post. “Ten years of memories, laughter, challenges, growth, and choosing each other have brought you to this beautiful moment,” the former Leafs enforcer wrote, accompanied by photos of the couple and of his son throughout the years.“It feels like just yesterday you were my little boy, and now I get to watch you build a life and future with the woman you love. I couldn’t be more proud of the man you’ve become and the love you two have shared and grown over all these years.” Domi’s announcement comes a few weeks before the Leafs first game of the 2026/2027 season on Sept. 29—a game he’s likely to miss following a surgery in the offseason for an undisclosed issue. In May, the team said Domi had experienced complications following the procedure after playing through injury last season. He signed a four-year, US$15-million contract extension with the Leafs in 2024.
