Still no opening date for Line 5 as TTC promotes Eglinton Crosstown LRT

The TTC is hyping up the opening of Line 5 to prospective transit riders, despite still having no official date for when that will be.

In a post on their website, the transit agency promoted the 19 kilometres of light rail transit (LRT) that will connect users from Mount Dennis Station to Kennedy Station along Eglinton Avenue.

Also known as the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, the TTC said Line 5 will offer “seamless interchange connections to Line 1 at Cedarvale and Eglinton stations, Line 2 at Kennedy Station, along with GO Transit and UP Express connections at Mount Dennis and GO Transit at Kennedy.”

The Crosstown LRT will also connect to 68 bus routes, the TTC said.

The transit agency added that more details, including an opening date, will come over the next few weeks.

Earlier this month, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the long-delayed project could finally open in early February. It was originally slated to be completed in 2020.

Last year, the TTC’s Line 6—the Finch West LRT—opened to public on Dec. 7, but it has been plagued by numerous switch issues resulting in closures and delays for users.

The line has also faced repeated closures due to poor weather in recent weeks, including a 15-hour closure during the snowstorm that struck the GTA on Jan. 16.
