Rexdale shooting leaves man in his 30s seriously injured

A man in his 30s has been rushed to hospital with serious injures after he was found with gunshot wounds in Rexdale on Wednesday.

A shooting in Rexdale has left a man in his 30s seriously injured, Toronto police say.

Emergency crews responded to Humber College Boulevard and Westmore Drive, east of Highway 27, after a shooting call came in at 4:19 p.m.

When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

Toronto paramedics told CTV News that they transported the victim to a trauma centre with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.

Police said the suspect was seen leaving the area in a dark-coloured vehicle.

No suspect description has been released.

Neighbours recounted to CTV News seeing the suspect get out of a black car, run towards the victim and fire at least six shots.

CTV News has viewed a video showing the moment the suspect approached the victim.

A man who lives across the street told CP24 he was in his bedroom reading a book when he heard “six loud bangs.” At the time of the shooting, there were men working on his roof.

“I’m like, that’s not an air nailer. Who’s firing off fireworks in the middle of 4 p.m. on a Wednesday?” the man recounted.

When he looked out of his window, he saw the victim on his hands and knees, covered in blood. The man said he also saw the suspect run to a black sedan.

He ran downstairs and then called 911.

The man said the shooting was unexpected.

“Nothing ever happens on this stretch of street,” he said. “There’s been shootings, like many shootings at the end of the street and stabbings down there, but never on this stretch of street. It’s always been quiet.”
