NEWSTALK 1010, Ford brothers agree to end weekly radio show

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, Coun. Doug Ford and NEWSTALK 1010 have mutually agreed to end the brothers’ weekly radio show.

CFRB confirmed in a statement Friday that the radio station and the Fords have "mutually determined to conclude broadcasts of The City, ending with last week's show."

"Of course, Mayor Ford and Councillor Ford remain welcome at any time as guests on NEWSTALK 1010," the statement said.

The mayor released a statement thanking the NEWSTALK 1010 team and program director Mike Bendixen "for the opportunity to voice our opinions and give Toronto residents an unfiltered take on the work we do every day at Toronto City Hall."

The weekly radio show focused on civic issues and typically included call-in segments during which listeners could ask the mayor and his brother questions.

On last Sunday's show the mayor apologized for "mistakes" he had made, but said he would not be stepping down.

The mayor has been fighting calls for him to either resign or take a leave of absence that have been growing since Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair announced last week that investigators had recovered a digital video in which the mayor appears to be smoking crack.

On Tuesday Ford admitted to smoking crack cocaine around one year ago while in a "drunken stupor," and on Thursday a new video appeared in which the mayor is seen ranting and uttering threats while apparently inebriated.
