A fire broke out in a shed where multiple e-bikes were stored in the city’s west end on Wednesday afternoon. Toronto Fire Services (TFS) said crews were called to a home near Roncesvalles Avenue and The Queensway shortly after 2:30 p.m. There, they encountered smoke at a detached shed at the back of a home. Toronto fire said crews subsequently knocked out the fire, which was contained to the shed. Inside, they located at least three e-bikes and secured their batteries, TFS said, noting that it has notified its investigation team. The cause and circumstances of the fire are unknown. No injuries were reported. “Lithium-ion battery safety matters. The increasing frequency and severity of these fires continues to be a serious public safety concern across our city,” TFS Chief Jim Jessop said in a social media post, sharing a photo of the e-bikes involved.
