Milder weather finally arrives in Toronto after longest cold snap in more than a decade

Snow and slick roads are slowing the morning commute across the GTA before flurries let up in the mid-morning. CP24’s Bill Coulter reports.

Torontonians are finally seeing some relief from bitter temperatures after an unrelenting cold snap that dragged on for more than three weeks.

For the first time in 23 days, Toronto will see the daytime high rise above the freezing mark on Tuesday. Environment Canada is calling for a high of 0 C, feeling like closer to -9 this morning.

The national weather agency is forecasting an extended stretch of seasonable temperatures this week.

The daytime high is expected to hover around the freezing mark for the remainder of the week and on Family Day, the mercury could rise to 4 C.

Snow accompanied the arrival of milder weather, with commuters in the GTA seeing slick roads during the morning rush hour on Tuesday.

CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said up to four centimetres of accumulation is expected in Toronto today.

“You might see a couple of isolated flurries this afternoon but it will be mostly done by the end of the morning rush,” he said.

Coulter said more snow is possible on Sunday but not all models are aligned on whether the system will bring significant snowfall.
