Ken Shaw, the longtime co-anchor of Toronto's number one newscast, CTV News at Noon and Six, has been named Best News Anchor at the Canadian Screen Awards Tuesday night. The awards for The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television were presented Tuesday night in the categories of News & Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Reality and Digital Media. Ken Shaw joined Baton Broadcasting as a technical trainee in 1972. Baton later became CTV. He joined CTV Toronto as a reporter in 1979 and moved into the anchor chair in the early 1980s. He's also filed stories for U.S. network programs such as Good Morning America and Nightline, and was a weekday anchor for CTV News Channel from 1999 to 2001. He currently co-anchors the newscast with Michelle Dube. Off-air, Shaw devotes a great deal of time and energy to various local charities and community events. In 2010, he received the Order of Ontario for his track record of excellence in volunteer service in the Greater Toronto Area he serves. CTV Toronto is CTV's flagship station and winner of the 2010 Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence by the Radio-Television Digital News Association. The local supper hour news program CTV News at Six joins CTV News at Noon and CTV News at 11:30 as the #1 choice for news in the Greater Toronto Area. Forty-seven Canadian Screen Awards were presented Tuesday night in the categories of News & Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Reality and Digital Media. It's all part of 2014 Canadian Screen Week, which culminates Sunday night with a televised gala. On the national level, CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme won for Best National Newscast at this year's Canadian Screen Awards, and the long-running CTV series W5 won for Best News Information Segment. LaFlamme and the W5 team were also honoured for 'Best News Information Segment, for 'The Survivor,' a documentary report on a teenager who was a victim of the Toronto Eaton Centre shooting.
