Kawhi Leonard enjoyed some tennis in Toronto on Tuesday night. Leonard attended the National Bank Open at Sobeys Stadium to watch the quarterfinal match between Grand Slam champions Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka. Earlier this summer, the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers had agreed on a trade that would send Leonard back to his former team. However, the trade was put on hold pending the outcome of an NBA investigation into Leonard’s 2024 contract with the Clippers. Photos shared by the tournament show a smiling Leonard in the front row sitting beside his longtime partner Kishele Shipley. In another post by the Women’s Tennis Association, Leonard was seen meeting American tennis player Coco Gauff. The two shared a hug and took pictures. Gauff even signed tennis balls for Leonard, which, according to the tournament’s social media page, were for his daughter. The American advanced to the semis of the tournament on Tuesday via a walkover, after her quarterfinal opponent Belinda Bencic withdrew due to a hip injury. It remains to be seen whether the trade will be completed in time for the start of the 2026-2027 NBA season. Leonard led the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019 before leaving for the Clippers as a free agent that summer. With files from The Canadian Press
