Toronto police have laid charges against a Pickering man in connection with a fatal head-on collision in Scarborough in May. The crash happened in the area of Sheppard Avenue East and Vandorf Street, just north of Highway 401, on the evening of May 21. Police said a Nissan Altima was travelling north on Sheppard Avenue East when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the centre line and hit a Volkswagen Jetta. The passenger of the Altima, a 42-year-old man, died in the collision while the driver, a 38-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver and passenger of the Jetta, police said, were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. In a news release on Wednesday, police announced that they had arrested William Howard Garrett of Pickering. He was charged with operation of a conveyance causing death while impaired to any degree, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, and two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
