Brampton man facing charges after Etobicoke hit-and-run

A man from Brampton is facing charges after a pedestrian was struck and critically injured in a hit-and-run collision in Etobicoke on Saturday.

The fail-to-remain crash happened in the Rexdale neighbourhood, near Albion Road and Islington Avenue.

Toronto police said they were called to that area at about 9:23 p.m. for reports of a person injury collision.

Investigators allege a 58-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk on the south side of Albion as the driver of a red Toyota Corolla was travelling westbound on Albion.

The motorist then crossed over into the eastbound lanes and mounted the sidewalk on the south side of Albion, police said, hitting the pedestrian on the sidewalk.

They said the driver then continued through a parking lot, where they also struck a fence and two parked cars.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two passengers of the Toyota Corolla were also transported to the hospital, both with minor injuries.

The vehicle’s driver, meanwhile, fled the scene on foot.

On Sunday, 40-year-old Suraju Ishau, of Brampton, turned himself in to 23 Division.

He has been arrested and charged with dangerous operation/bodily harm, leave accident scene/bodily harm, dangerous operation/bodily harm, and leave accident scene/bodily harm.

Ishau is scheduled to appear in bail court on Monday.
