MONCTON, N.B. - Fans of U2 began snapping up tickets today for the rock band's appearance in New Brunswick this summer.

Tickets for the band's concert at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in Moncton on July 30 along with Canada's Arcade Fire were still available at mid-afternoon, a few hours after they went on sale.

General admission is $65 while the red zone closest to the stage run $275, plus service charges.

Andre Hudon, president of Donald K Donald Events, the show's promoter, described sales as "fantastic" in an email but didn't offer any more details.

Hotels in Moncton began selling out before the show was announced eight days ago when rumours of the concert began circulating.

Mayor George LeBlanc has described the U2 concert as the latest feather in the city's cap, highlighting a series of high-profile events it has landed including the World Junior Track and Field Championships and regular season Canadian Football League games.

The province has also spent money to improve the Magnetic Hill concert site to help attract big acts.
