Merella Fernandez

Merella Fernandez is an anchor with BNN Bloomberg. She leads live market coverage on the station, delivering breaking news updates and interviews with the country’s top financial experts. Fernandez joined the BNN Bloomberg team in February 2025. She previously appeared as an anchor on CTV News Channel, which she first joined as a correspondent in 2011. Fernandez began her career with an internship at CTV News and soon joined CTV National News and Canada AM as an editorial assistant. She then spent more than a decade as an anchor and reporter for Toronto’s CityNews, in addition to being a writer, reporter, and anchor for CP24. Throughout her career, she has covered a wide range of breaking news and major events, including the 2023 coronation of King Charles III; the 2022 Uvalde, Texas school shooting; and the 2021 London, Ont., terror attack that killed four members of the Afzaal family and left a fifth injured. Fernandez holds a bachelor of journalism from Carleton University, and initially intended to pursue a career in print journalism. Following her internship with CTV National News, Fernandez was inspired by the daily impact of broadcast news, and has never looked back. Fernandez and her family immigrated to Canada when she was just a year old. In her spare time, she enjoys giving back by providing mentorship to young journalists who are new to Canada. She speaks English.
