TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty says he knows switching from making cars to making wind turbines won't be easy but he insists green technology is key to boosting the province's economy.

McGuinty says the province isn't turning away from its traditional auto jobs, but has a responsibility to create new work and as well as a sustainable energy base.

Ontario is set to introduce legislation today that the government says will create 50-thousand new jobs and transform the province's struggling economy.

Energy Minister George Smitherman has said the Green Energy Act will make it easier to bring renewable energy projects to life and create a culture of conservation.

The plan will also include provincewide standards on where new wind turbines and solar farms can be located, taking that power away from municipalities.

But McGuinty says there will be space for the municipalities to provide feedback and isn't looking to compromise people's quality of life.
