The man accused of running down and killing Toronto police Sgt. Ryan Russell with a stolen snowplow made a brief video appearance in court today.

Richard Kachkar, 44, had his first-degree murder case put over to March 17, when he is expected to appear again by video link.

His lawyer, Bob Richardson, said he is waiting for more disclosure from the Crown.

Kachkar was arrested on Jan. 12, about an hour after Russell was struck while trying to stop a stolen snowplow.

Police shot and wounded Kachkar during a takedown on a Toronto street about seven kilometres from where Russell was struck.

Kachkar, from St. Catharines, Ont., also faces two counts of attempted murder for injuries suffered by two police officers.

He has been in custody at the Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton, Ont., since his release from hospital.

The case had been temporarily delayed to allow time for Kachkar to find a lawyer. Richardson has since agreed to represent Kachkar.

The case was delayed until Thursday to allow prosecutors to prepare disclosure.

Russell, 35, left behind a wife and two-year-old son.
