Peel Region homicide detectives have arrested a suspect in the murder of 22-year-old Amandeep Kaur Dhillon.

The victim's body was found on Jan. 1 at Airport Foods, a small Indian grocery store on Airport Road in Mississauga.

On Tuesday, police arrested her father-in-law, Kamikar Singh Dhillon. The 47-year-old faces a charge of first-degree murder.

It's unclear how the victim died, but police said her body showed "obvious signs of trauma."

Officers found Dhillon after responding to a 911 call from a man who runs a business next door to Airport Foods, believed to be a family-run store.

"One lady came here and said the grocery guys are in trouble," the man told CTV Toronto.

Friends of Dhillon said she had a young child who lived in India with relatives.

While homicides were down across the GTA in 2008, Peel set a record with 27 murders last year. That's a jump from 17 homicides in 2007 and 10 in 2006.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Peel police homicide squad at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
