DETROIT -- J.D. Martinez homered and drove in three runs, Mike Pelfrey ended an 18-start winless string and the Detroit Tigers beat Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox 7-4 Saturday.

During the game, the White Sox announced they had acquired former All-Star pitcher James Shields and cash from San Diego for two players.

White Sox left fielder Jason Coats, making his major league debut, exited in the seventh inning after colliding with centre fielder J.B. Shuck. Coats was bleeding from a cut in his mouth, was tested for a concussion and was listed as day to day.

Martinez hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth that helped Pelfrey (1-5) post his first win since last Aug. 12. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in six innings, striking out three. Francisco Rodriguez got the final out for his 14th save.

Sale (9-2) failed again to become the first 10-game winner in the majors. He allowed four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings, and is now 0-2 in his last three starts.

INDIANS 7, ROYALS 1

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Francisco Lindor hit one of Cleveland's three home runs, leading the Indians into first place in the AL Central with a win over the Kansas City Royals.

Lindor, whose two-run homer came in the seventh inning, became the first Indians player to record three extra-base hits in a game this season. He also started an outstanding defensive play in the ninth. Playing in a shift near second base, he made a backhand stop of Kendrys Morales' hard-hit grounder and flipped to third baseman Jose Ramirez, who was playing behind second. Ramirez threw to first for the out.

Tyler Naquin hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Mike Napoli started the four-run inning with a solo homer.

Josh Tomlin (8-1) bounced back from his first loss of the season and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings. Ian Kennedy (4-4) gave up five runs in six innings.

Atlanta starter Bud Norris (1-7) held the Dodgers to a run on three hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked four.

Kershaw scored the game's first run after beating out an infield hit in the third. He went to second on a walk, and then scored on Justin Turner's two-out single.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Jason Hammel allowed one hit over seven innings and snapped a tie with a two-run single to lead the sizzling Chicago Cubs past the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Dexter Fowler added his 17th career leadoff home run, Anthony Rizzo hit his 13th homer and Hector Rondon pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 10th save for the Cubs, who have won four straight and 10 of 11.

Arizona went up 2-0 on Jake Lamb's 10th homer in the first following a walk. But Hammel (7-1) settled down and allowed only one more walk, retiring his last 13 batters

The D-backs walked David Ross intentionally to load the bases in the fourth. Hammel responded with a grounder up the middle that got by Edwin Escobar (0-2), hit second base and darted into right field to cap a three-run inning.

Adam Duvall hit Shawn Kelley's fourth pitch for a tiebreaking three-run homer following a 64-minute rain delay in the bottom of the eighth, extending Cincinnati's best winning streak of the season.

Strasburg walked Zack Cozart to start the bottom of the sixth inning, gave up Votto's homer, and grabbed his right calf on a pitch to Brandon Phillips. He left a few pitches later, limping slightly.

Jay Bruce also homered off Strasburg, who fanned 10 and became the first Nationals pitcher to strike out 1,000 in his career.

Ross Ohlendorf (4-4) got the win, while Felipe Rivero (0-2) took the loss.

ASTROS 6, ATHLETICS 5, 12 INNINGS

After Jed Lowrie hit a tying home run with two outs in the ninth for Oakland, the Astros came back to win.

George Springer started Houston's 12th with a double off Ryan Madson (2-2) and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jose Altuve. Correa then shot a single down the right-field line to give Houston its seventh win in eight games.

Scott Feldman (3-3) plunked Khris Davis with two outs in the 12th before a single by Yonder Alonso. But Feldman retired Marcus Semien to end the inning.

METS 6, MARLINS 4

MIAMI (AP) -- Michael Conforto ended an 0-for-20 skid with an RBI single in the eighth and scored the tiebreaking run on pinch hitter Matt Reynolds' two-out single later in the inning to help the New York Mets rally past the Miami Marlins.

Conforto also hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth. The left fielder was a last-minute addition to the lineup when slugger Yoenis Cespedes was scratched because of a sore right hip, the latest in a wave of injuries for the Mets.

Jim Henderson (1-2) retired the only batter he faced in the seventh. Addison Reed pitched around a single in the eighth to extend his scoreless streak to 13 1/3 innings. Locke (5-3) gave up three runs and seven hits in seven innings. He had two strikeouts and no walks. Mark Melancon pitched a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 18 opportunities.

RAYS 7, TWINS 4

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered for the third straight game, and Matt Andriese worked five innings in a rain-shortened start to pick up his fourth win as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins.

Longoria's fifth-inning home run was one of four for the Rays on the cloudy day, and the second of three allowed by Twins starter Ervin Santana (1-5). Steven Souza Jr.'s three-run shot off Santana in the fourth put the Rays ahead for good, and Logan Morrison's two-run homer in the seventh against Michael Tonkin put the game out of reach to give Tampa Bay its second consecutive win.

Hank Conger -- who came in hitting .188 with one homer -- had a solo shot in the third.

Andriese (4-0) allowed three runs, one unearned, in five innings -- his shortest start this season, thanks in part to a 70-minute rain delay in the sixth.

YANKEES 8, ORIOLES 6

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Starlin Castro and Austin Romine each had two RBIs, Alex Rodriguez had three hits and the New York Yankees squandered most of a seven-run lead before escaping with a victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Cueto (9-1) allowed a run on four hits in six innings with one strikeout. He hadn't walked more than two in any of his first 11 starts for his new team. Cueto is among four nine-game winners, joining Stephen Strasburg, Jake Arrieta and Chris Sale. Six of Cueto's victories have come on the road.

Five Giants relievers combined to give up just one hit.

RANGERS 10, MARINERS 4

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Elvis Andrus homered, Rougned Odor scored twice in his return from a seven-game suspension for punching Jose Bautista and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners.

Odor got a standing ovation when introduced before his first at-bat. He was reinstated before the game after serving Major League Baseball's penalty for slugging Toronto's right fielder in the testy home game May 15.

It was the fourth game in a row the Mariners trailed by three runs after the first inning. Their only victory in that span was the biggest comeback in franchise history, overcoming a 10-run deficit after five innings Thursday to win 16-13 at San Diego.

Rangers lefty Martin Perez (4-4) allowed three runs over six innings. Nathan Karns (5-2) was gone after the first two batters in the fifth reached, and eventually scored.

PADRES 4, ROCKIES 3

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Wil Myers homered, singled and doubled, missing the cycle by a triple for the second time in four games, and Derek Norris hit a two-run homer to lead the San Diego Padres past the Colorado Rockies.

Earlier in the day, the Padres sent right-hander James Shields and $29 million to the Chicago White Sox for two prospects, capping one of the more miserable weeks in team history. The deal came three days after Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler criticized the last-place team's recent performances as being "embarrassing" and "pathetic," and called out Shields for his poor start Tuesday at Seattle.

Andrew Cashner (3-5) snapped a personal three-game losing streak. Chad Bettis (4-5) allowed four runs and 10 hits in five innings, struck out three and walked one.
