ST-JEROME, Que. - A former competitive Canadian skier has told the sex-crimes trial of ex-coach Bertrand Charest she had an abortion when she was about 15 after having unprotected sex with him numerous times.

Charest is facing a total of 57 charges, including sexual assault and breach of trust.

There are a dozen alleged victims who were between 12 and 19 at the time of the alleged crimes.

The witness, whose identity is protected by law, told the court today their sexual encounters continued after the abortion and that Charest himself purchased contraceptive pills for her.

The woman, who testified she was young and in love with her coach, testified that Charest often told her not to speak to others about their relationship because he would go to prison if it became known.

She is the sixth alleged victim to testify at the trial, which began last week.
