Following a Rangers victory in Game 1 and news that Canadiens goalie Carey Price would be sidelined for the rest of series, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has finally responded to an NHL playoff bet with Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.
Taking to Twitter Monday afternoon, de Blasio has suggested a jersey-and bagel-based wager. Bagels are a source of food pride for both cities.
.@DenisCoderre, I'll bet you a bag of bagels and a Rangers jersey on a New York win. What says Montreal? #RANGERSTOWN pic.twitter.com/i9vg4nVf2L

Coderre responded to de Blasio’s tweet about an hour later, saying he finds it “interesting” that the New York mayor proposed a wager following the Canadiens’ loss in Game 1, when Price sustained a lower-body injury.
But the Montreal mayor said he would consider the proposition.
Intéressant le maire de NY me propose un pari après la victoire des Rangers et de la blessure de Carey...Je vous reviens sous peu ;) #HabsDC

The bet came three days after Coderre first tweeted de Blasio.
How about a friendly wager on Canadien - Rangers series Mayor? @BilldeBlasio #HabsDC

In a similar bet last week, the Canadiens proposed a wager to Jimmy Fallon, comedian and host of The Tonight Show.
Bet, @JimmyFallon? @NYRangers win series, your face = our Twitter avatar for a day. We win = you wear our jersey for a monologue. #GoHabsGo

Fallon agreed that if the Habs win the series, he’ll wear a Montreal jersey for a monologue on his show.
